All standings are prayers

Both the Yesushalmi and Bavli correlate the three prayers of the ordinary day with the three patriarchs.

The proof text is expressed ואין עמידה אלא תפילה as if the word for stand always means prayer. However a closer look at the examples reveals that these are not just examples of ( great people) standing, but they are standing up for a cause! Avraham is standing up for the people of Sodom. Pinchas is standing up for the Israelites. Yes, whenever one stands up for a cause againgst Gd, that is an essence of prayer
Certainly meditations are a form of prayer and it is nice that the gemorah recognizes this modern concept.
The example of Yaakov invoves a person confronting his/her own needs. That seems to be the 's omeaning of ויפגע And when he/she recognizes Gd's involvement in this process, that constitutes prayer.
